During a bushfire, you may experience interruptions to your electricity supply, even if your property isn’t directly affected.
Repairing the network and getting the power back on during a bushfire may take several hours or even days, depending on the time it takes to safely access the area and do the repairs. This means that your bushfire plans should factor in a possible loss of electricity.
Prepare with a bushfire plan
- Create a bushfire plan and be clear about when you will leave your property. For information and advice on preparing a plan, visit the Victorian Government and CFA websites.
- If you have an electricity water pump, install an alternative water supply and back-up generator to pump water.
- If you're returning to your property after a fire, please be careful and follow all advice from emergency services.

Getting your power back on
During a bushfire, you may experience a power outage, even if your property isn't directly affected by fire. While we aim to fix outages as quickly as possible, we may need to wait until we can safely access the area first
If we can't get your power back on after a bushfire, we'll leave a letter at your property letting you know what to do. You may need to contact a Registered Electrical Contractor (REC) to do some repairs at your property before we can safely get the power back on for you
If your property was damaged or destroyed and you need a temporary electricity supply – for example, to power a caravan - contact an REC to arrange this.
