Network efficiencies help Victorians save on gas prices

30 November 2017

Network prices are falling for Victorian households and businesses connected to natural gas; as the Australian Energy Regulator today announced tariff reductions for the network component of Victorian gas bills.

AusNet welcomes the decision, as customers within its gas distribution network in Western Metropolitan Melbourne and West Regional Victoria are set to save up to 13.3% on network charges in real terms over the next five years, starting from the 1st January 2018.

“We’re very pleased to continue to achieve gas network efficiencies and deliver cost savings to customers,” said AusNet CEO, Mr Nino Ficca.

These savings are applied to the network component of the gas bill. Customers are advised to contact their retailers after January 1st  to find out how the savings have been passed on to them.

Households connected to gas within the AusNet distribution network will save around $28 on average in the first year, while small businesses can expect to see a reduction of around $46.

“We’re always looking to provide value for our customers and will continue our program of replacing ageing gas pipelines to maintain high standards of network safety and reliability, said Mr Ficca.”
