Site readiness

Preparing your site for a new natural gas connection

Access

The site must allow clear access for field work crews to enter and exit and complete their work.

Clean and clear

Proposed service line and meter location must be free from:

  • scaffolding
  • temporary fencing
  • bins and toilets
  • building materials.

We prefer that no other trades are onsite during installation.

Markings

Site must be clearly marked with Lot/House number, street and suburb and visible from the street.

Final ground levels should be clearly marked on site.

Location

Proposed gas meter location must be identified as per distributor's requirements. Meter location must be accessible for reading and maintenance (e.g. not behind a gate). The meter must be protected if proposed location is within 1 metre of vehicle traffic.

The meter must be in a compliant position in accordance with the AS/NZS 4645 and AusNet standards.

Minimum Clearance

  • 500mm Electricity Meter.
  • 500mm Communication Equipment.
  • 1000mm Window, door, garage, driveway.
  • 1000mm Electricity equipment.
  • 1000mm Source of ignition.
  • 3000mm Mechanical air inlet.
  • 5000mm Flammable materials storage.

For installations at units or apartments, there must be a metal tag engraved with the unit/house number attached to the fitting line.

Gas site readiness guidelines

We will schedule a site inspection once we receive your request for a new gas connection.

Having your site ready helps to ensure our crews are safe and efficient. This also minimises any connection delays for yourself and others.

As soon as we assess that your site is ready, we will aim to install your gas service within 20 business days.

Site re-evaluation will be required if the field crew find the site has changed, and no longer meets mandatory requirements. The works will be re-scheduled to take place within 20 days after readiness.
