Vegetation management

Keeping trees and branches clear of powerlines is an important part of keeping our electricity network reliable and our communities safe.

Who is responsible for clearing vegetation?

Planting near distribution lines

These are the poles and wires you see around the streets or on private properties.

  • Only plant species with a maximum mature height of 3 meters or less, within 7 meters of a powerline.
  • Always plant larger species more than seven meters away from the powerline.
  • Plant vegetation at a far enough distance that prevents it from falling on the powerlines. For example, plant a tree that can grow 10 meters at least 13 meters from a powerline.
