Golden Plains Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

Location: Rokewood, VIC
Traditional Country: Eastern Maar
Timeframe: Started in February 2026. Estimated completion by February 2027.

Overview

We’re working with TagEnergy to deliver the Golden Plains BESS, located adjacent to the Golden Plains Wind Farm approximately 60km north-west of Geelong. The project will deliver a 150MW/600MWh battery energy storage system.
Our construction contractor, Consolidated Power Projects, built the facility and work as Principal Contractors on site. AusNet utilised local suppliers in the Victorian region to deliver the connection for TagEnergy.

For more information, visit the Golden Plains BESS website.

What does this involve?

  • Designing and installing a new 220kV bay and associated infrastructure.
  • Upgrading the existing 220kV switchyard at Golden Plains Terminal Station to accommodate the new connection.

Project outcomes

Once operational, the Golden Plains BESS will provide additional energy storage capacity to support the integration of renewable energy into Victoria’s electricity network. The 150MW/600MWh system will store energy for use when it is needed, helping to strengthen grid reliability and support Victoria’s transition to a cleaner energy future.
