The Mains Replacement Program involves replacing deteriorated and poor performing low and medium pressure mains and services with high pressure mains. We are prioritising heavily deteriorated infrastructure across the gas network which is more likely to cause leaks and service disruptions.
These mains are upgraded by installing modern polyethylene mains, resulting in reduced leak volumes, improved safety, increased network capacity, better reliability, and stronger consistency of supply. The existing and older gas mains will be used as conduits to insert the new gas mains, reducing the requirement for trenching and other disruptions.
This stage of the program is focussing on two stretches making up about 15 kilometres of mains:
- Warmington Street, Sunshine – 9.1 kilometres
- Ross Street, Altona North – 5.6 kilometres
