Project overview
Transmission Access & Switching Management (TASM) is a major program to modernise how we plan, assess and manage our transmission network.
Our state-wide transmission network delivers electricity safely and reliably to communities across Victoria. As the energy system changes, the way we plan and coordinate work on the network becomes more complex.
What will TASM do?
TASM will introduce a new digital platform to help plan transmission outages, manage access requests and support switching activities (safely turning parts of the high voltage network off or on). It will bring key information and workflows together, helping our teams work more consistently.
What is switching?
Switching is the process of turning parts of the high-voltage electricity network off and on so work can be carried out safely. It involves isolating equipment, making it safe to work on and then returning it to service in a controlled way.
Today, switching instructions are managed manually using spreadsheets. TASM will digitise this process, making it easier to create, manage and track switching activities.
The program will help us
- improve how transmission outages and access requests are planned
- support safer and more consistent switching activities
- improve coordination with industry partners, including near real-time integration with Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) systems
- strengthen reporting and record keeping
- support a more reliable, resilient and renewable-ready electricity network.
Does this project involve construction?
No construction is planned as part of the current project scope. TASM is focused on improving the digital tools and processes used to manage access to the transmission network.
