Overview
We’re upgrading sections of the transmission lines between Hazelwood and Rowville and Ballarat to Bendigo, to increase ground clearance.
Some sections of these lines do not have the minimum distance required between the line and the ground.
We’ll replace selected towers with steel monopoles to lift the lines higher above the ground. These upgrades will improve safety and reliability and help the lines meet current standards.
What we’ll do
- Create new pole foundations.
- Replace selected towers with monopoles.
- Tighten transmission lines in between towers.
- Install new insulators and hardware.
- Remove infrastructure we no longer need.
- Restore work sites close to their original state.
How we’ll deliver the program
We’ll deliver the works in stages along the Hazlewood to Rowville and Ballarat to Bendigo transmission lines. Activities include:
- creating access tracks
- installing new steel monopole structures
- transferring conductors to transmission lines
- removing existing towers.
Landholders
We’ll contact landholders before we access properties and work with them on:
- preferred timing to access the property
- farming operations
- using existing tracks
- following biosecurity requirements
- restoring any damaged areas.
What this means for the community
You may notice more vehicle movements, noise and activity along the transmission line routes while works are underway.
Planned outages
There may be planned outages so we can safely complete some parts of this project. We’ll schedule these outages in advance and minimise disruption as much as possible.
