Project overview
Electricity demand is growing across Melbourne’s northern suburbs. Some powerlines supplying the area are reaching capacity, particularly during periods of high electricity demand.
We’re installing new underground electricity cables near Epping Road and along Harvest Home Road. The new cables will connect parts of the network that are reaching capacity to nearby powerlines with more available capacity.
This work will help maintain a reliable electricity supply as demand grows, particularly during summer. The works include boring beneath Epping Road, trenching along Harvest Home Road and installing new underground cables and equipment.
Project timeline
Works will start on Monday 21 September 2026 and are expected to take about four weeks.

Community impacts
Traffic changes
The southern lane of Harvest Home Road will be closed during the works. Traffic controllers will guide traffic in both directions.
- Lane closures may also be required on Epping Road.
- Reduced speed limits will apply through the work areas. Please slow down and follow traffic management signs and directions from traffic controllers.

Access
We’ll work with residents and businesses directly impacted by this work to manage access during construction.
Noise and construction activity
Some residents and businesses nearby may notice construction noise, dust, vibration and additional vehicles near the work area.
We’ll try to reduce disruption where we can and complete the work as safely and efficiently as possible.
Power outages
If outages are required, affected customers will receive a separate notification in advance with the outage date, time and information about how to prepare.
Community engagement
We have contacted customers, businesses, schools and other organisations directly affected by the works.
