Sydenham to Moorabool ground wire replacement

Location: Various locations between Sydenham and Moorabool
Traditional Country: Wurundjeri, Bunurong and Wadawurrung
Timeframe: Completion by August 2025

Powerlines spanning across a barren field

Overview

We are replacing the ground wire on the entire Sydenham to Moorabool 500kV transmission line.

The ground wire on a transmission line acts like a shield, safely directing energy from lightning into the ground. This protects the transmission line and equipment to keep the electricity flowing and help prevent outages.

Maintaining our infrastructure allows us to continue supplying safe and reliable electricity to Victorians.

Staged replacement

We will be replacing the ground wire in sections of approximately 5km at a time.

Local impacts during construction

We are working with landholders who have an easement for this transmission line on their property, so we can minimise impacts on their land, businesses and farming operations.

There will be traffic management over road crossings to protect the safety of our crews and road users.

Timeline

We have engaged Consolidated Power Projects (CPP) to deliver this project between February and August 2025.
