Pine Lodge Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

Location: Pine Lodge, VIC
Traditional Country: Yorta Yorta
Timeframe: Started in November 2024 and completed in December 2025.

Overview

AusNet were engaged by Valent Energy delivered the new 220kV Pine Lodge Terminal Station and associated transmission infrastructure to connect a 250MW/550MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to the Victorian transmission network.

AusNet designed and constructed the connection assets and will operate and maintain the terminal station.

For more information, visit the Pine Lodge BESS website.

What did this involve?

  • Built and commissioned the new 220kV Pine Lodge Terminal Station.
  • Cut the new connection into the existing Shepparton to Glenrowan No. 3 220 kV transmission line.
  • Installed two 150 MVA, 220/33 kV power transformers to connect the battery energy storage system to the high-voltage network.
  • Installed three 220 kV circuit breakers, a new control room and associated terminal station infrastructure.

What were the outcomes?

The new connection allows the 250 MW/550 MWh battery energy storage system to exchange electricity with Victoria’s transmission network.

The new terminal station and connection assets establish a critical interface between the battery system and Victoria's 220 kV transmission network.

Pine Lodge Terminal Station was energised ahead of schedule and the connection works were completed within budget. The result reflects a disciplined approach to safety, efficient delivery and coordination across a complex program of transmission, civil and electrical works.
