Low pressure gas mains decommissioning

Our crews recently finished decommissioning 8.4 kilometres of low-pressure gas mains in Ascot Vale.

This project marked the completion of our low-pressure mains renewal within metropolitan Melbourne, a massive milestone for our gas network.

This site was completed last due to its high level of complexity which made it the most challenging among all metro locations. The low-pressure mains renewal program is continuing in regional areas of our gas network.

How does it work?

We use a specific insertion method where the new poly pipes get inserted into the existing carrier pipes. This method means we don’t need to excavate footpaths, roads and vegetation when future maintenance and repairs are carried out.

We’re on track to convert all of our low-pressure mains network to high pressure by 2028, you can follow our progress on our Completed Projects page.
