Bushfire mitigation works in East Gippsland

Timeframe: 19 to 20 October 2024

Overview

Our crews are preparing for 2 big days out on the network, completing essential bushfire preparation works ahead of this summer and the bushfire season.

To reduce the impact on local businesses, schools and residents in the area we’ve chosen to complete the works over one weekend rather than across a week or longer.

Across the weekend of 19 and 20 October, 80 crew members, along with 20 trucks, 1 crane and 6 specialised pole removal vehicles will complete maintenance and power pole replacements on sections of the network.

Where we'll be working

Towns will be impacted differently across the two days. Majority of works will be completed between Bairnsdale and Nowa Nowa on Saturday. On the Sunday our crews will continue towards Cann River, with some works being completed further east near Gipsy Point, Noorinbee and Noorinbee North.

We’ll have a large traffic management crew on site over the weekend to guide you safely through works areas.

What this means for you

To safely complete the works, we will need to turn the power off. All impacted residents will receive a letter, SMS or email in advance with details of the planned power interruptions. Make sure your electricity retailer (the company you pay your power bills to) has your current contact details, so they can pass them onto us.

Outages will occur between 8:00am and 4.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. Please check your planned outage letter for details of when you are likely to be without power. Not every customer will be without power for both days.

Please note, there are no planned outages in Bairnsdale CBD, Lakes Entrance, Metung, Paynesville, Eagle Point, Nicholson, Swan Reach and Lake Tyers Beach.

Additional generation

We will be installing (low voltage) generation on a portion of the network in Cann River to support business continuity while works are happening near the town. We'll switch the town's supply back to the grid in the evening, once our crews have finished maintenance works.

MAGS (Mallacoota Area Grid Storage) will also provide the town of Mallacoota with electricity supply at the eastern end of our network.

More information

Keep an eye on Outage Tracker, we will publish details of the outages a week before they are scheduled to begin. If you have any questions about these planned outages, please call our team on 1300 360 795.
