Neighbourhood Batteries for Queenscliffe

29 October 2025

Efforts are underway to support the local uptake of rooftop solar generation across the Borough of Queenscliffe, with plans to install four Battery Energy Storage Systems units at 3 locations, to support the local network.

In March 2024, Victorian Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio announced that Mondo would receive $1.2 million in State Government funding through the 100 Neighbourhood Batteries Program to install four batteries to support the Queenscliffe shift to renewable energy.

Delivered in partnership with Queenscliffe Climate Action Now and the Borough of Queenscliffe, this innovative addition to Queenscliffe’s electricity supply will absorb solar generation during the day and then release stored power back to the grid at night, when energy demand is often at its highest, reducing the carbon emissions associated with the electricity supply.

Mondo Acting General Manager Distributed Energy, Guy Grossbard, said over the last 20 months Mondo has been working closely with project partners and the community to identify site locations.

The four Battery Energy Storage Systems units will be 100 kW/205 kWh in capacity and incorporate a switchboard to house the network connection, safety equipment and communications.

“Mondo have been working closely with the community to find suitable land amongst established settlements, with the coastal location posing additional challenges,” said Mr Grossbard.

The Victorian Government is investing in neighbourhood batteries to further progress the renewable energy targets set for Victoria which include a target of 95% renewable electricity generation by 2035 and at least 2.6 GW of energy storage capacity by 2030.

“Mondo is excited be working alongside the community of Queenscliffe as we usher in a new era in local renewable energy,” said Mr Grossbard.

For people wanting to learn more about this project, a community information session will take place on Tuesday 25 November. For more details go to: mondo.com.au/projects/queenscliffe.
