Victoria's largest energy delivery business AusNet has welcomed the Grattan Institute's report into the state of the National Electricity Market (NEM).
Managing Director Nino Ficca said the report was a balanced analysis of the current energy challenges and provided considered solutions.
"Short-term focused partisan politics has no place in the energy debate," Mr Ficca said.
"The energy sector faces some major challenges, but if we continue to see partisan politics on climate change, energy security and affordability things will get worse not better.
"Worryingly, states are starting to go it alone to deliver quick fixes.
"If states put their own short-term political needs ahead of national interests, over the long term it will be harder to avoid blackouts and higher electricity prices for consumers.
"Improvements to how we strategically plan the nation’s energy future are needed, but these can only be effective if they are part of a strong and unified national approach."
