AusNet has become the first energy distributor in Australia to introduce website accessibility tools, making it easier for customers to access essential information online.
AusNet Customer Communications Manager Evelyn Vettivelu said this technology will help customers access information in a way that suits their needs.
"More than five million Australians live with a disability, while many others experience challenges such as low vision, dyslexia, ADHD, literacy barriers, neurodivergence or language differences.
"For these customers, many websites can be difficult to navigate, read and understand,” Ms Vettivelu said.
Whether customers are experiencing a power outage, investigating a solar connection or looking for safety information, difficulties accessing essential information can add frustration, confusion and anxiety.
"Our website accessibility toolbar gives customers the ability to personalise their online experience so they can access important information in a way that works best for them," Ms Vettivelu said.
By clicking the Accessibility Tools icon in the top right-hand corner of the AusNet website, customers can instantly customise their experience with tools that help them read, listen to, translate and navigate content more easily.
Features include text-to-speech functionality that reads content aloud, dyslexia-friendly fonts, customisable text size, spacing and colour contrast, reading rulers, screen masks and focus tools, as well as screen reader support and enhanced navigation tools. The accessibility tools are available immediately, with no downloads, registration or setup required. The platform also provides instant translation into more than 100 languages.
"More than 1.25 million AusNet customers across our electricity and gas networks speak a language other than English at home, making this a valuable way to remove barriers to accessing essential information and services," Ms Vettivelu said.
