AusNet and CPP connecting Ryan Corner Wind Farm to the Grid
AusNet Services (AusNet) will this month commence construction on the transmission assets to connect the 218MW Ryan Corner Wind Farm in Victoria’s south west to the grid, and unlock new clean energy for the state. Once complete in late 2023 the wind farm will provide enough clean energy to power 141,000 homes. It will support 300 jobs during construction and eight permanent jobs during operations.
AusNet is working with Global Power Generation Australia (GPGA), the owner and operator of the wind farm, to plan, own and operate the supporting transmission assets, and will deliver the project with construction partner Consolidated Power Projects Australia Pty Ltd (CPP). Global Power Generation (GPG), a company jointly owned by Naturgy Energy Group SA (75%) and Kuwait Investment Authority (25%), manages a total installed power capacity of 4,100 MW in nine countries.
Chief Development Officer, Chad Hymas, said AusNet’s transmission expertise, local knowledge and experience delivering grid connections meant it was ideally placed to deliver the new infrastructure. “We are proud to be supporting our customer GPGA and Victoria’s transition to renewable energy delivering this project with our partner CPP. Since 2017 AusNet has delivered infrastructure and 180 kilometres of transmission assets to connect nearly 2GW of renewables and battery storage to the market,” he said.
“CPP has proven experience and expertise in the construction of transmission assets for renewable energy projects and we are pleased to be working with them to deliver this significant project,” Mr Hymas added.
AusNet and CPP will build approximately 19 kilometres of new 132kV transmission line from the wind farm to the Tarrone Terminal Station. AusNet will also undertake augmentation works at the terminal station to install a new 420MVA transformer and build a new substation at the wind farm site. The substation at the Ryan Corner Wind Farm will comprise two 120MVA transformers.
CPP President, Dave Evans, said AusNet’s appointment of CPP to the project is an endorsement of the CPP’s skills and expertise in renewable energy construction.
“CPP has delivered more than 250 infrastructure projects across Australia since 1996,” said Mr Evans. We are delighted to be partnering with AusNet to help build a renewable energy future.”
