AusNet acknowledges the Victorian Premier’s announcement of an independent assessment into costs of the Western Renewables Link (WRL) and will support the review.
Our focus is on delivering value for money for Victorian electricity customers as the State transitions away from coal-fired power, while making sure landholders and communities share in the benefits of the project.
AusNet is contracted by VicGrid to develop and deliver the electricity transmission project, which will connect wind and solar energy generators in western Victoria to the grid, powering more than one million homes across the state.
We welcome the assessment of the WRL by the Victorian Minister for Planning under the Environment Effects Act 1978. The assessment finds that the environmental impacts of the project are, on balance, acceptable with implementation of the environmental management framework, environmental performance requirements and recommendations made by the Minister for Planning.
About the Western Renewables Link
The Western Renewables Link is a proposed 190-kilometre 500 kV overhead high-voltage electricity transmission line that will carry renewable energy from near Bulgana in western Victoria to Sydenham in Melbourne’s north-west. The project is critical infrastructure required to unlock the renewable energy potential of western Victoria and will deliver clean energy to all Victorians.
