A $17 million upgrade of AusNet’s Benalla Zone Substation has been completed, delivering more reliable electricity for communities across Benalla, Mansfield, Merrijig and surrounding Alpine areas.
AusNet Project Manager Nathan Scott said: “This major upgrade will benefit 12,000 AusNet customers across the region and make the local power supply more reliable and better equipped for future demand, especially during the snow season and other busy periods.”
The project involved replacing ageing equipment that was nearing the end of its life and rebuilding key parts of the substation, including new circuit breakers and protection equipment.
“We have undertaken extensive structural works, bringing in new poles, foundations and other support structures.”
“We also replaced old equipment, strengthened the network by changing the layout of the substation so that future maintenance can be carried out with fewer and shorter power interruptions,” Mr Scott said.
Safety and security at the site were also improved, with new fencing, lighting and cameras, creating a safer environment.
AusNet continues to work with local communities and stakeholders on further reliability improvements for the BN11 feeder which serves Euroa and surrounds, supported by targeted investment, maintenance and ongoing consultation.
