The process for connecting to the Victorian transmission network is different from other states. In Victoria, AEMO manages most of the process, while AusNet provides physical connections to our part of the network.

From late 2025, VicGrid will take on some responsibilities currently managed by AEMO.

Who does what

AEMO AusNet VicGrid

 Manages the Victorian connection process including enquiries, applications, agreements, and commissioning.

Responsible for connecting parties to the Declared Shared Network (DSN).

Coordinates with developers, service providers, and impacted network service providers.

Owns and operates most of Victoria’s Declared Shared Network. Provides the physical connection (non-contestable works).

Works with AEMO and developers to deliver safe, reliable connections.

From late 2025, will take over responsibility for Victorian connections from AEMO.

Plans future Renewable Energy Zones (REZs).

Will introduce a new connection regime for inside and outside REZs.
