Your outage kit

Outage kits should be packed in advance so it’s ready to be used during an unplanned power outage.

Keep it in a place that’s easy to access if the power goes out and make sure everyone in your house or business knows where it is.

If you or anyone in your house is a registered life support customer, make sure your emergency plan is up to date.

You can be as creative as you’d like when creating your outage kit.

Here's some suggestions to get you started:

Be comfortable

  • First aid kit, blankets and any important medications
  • Snacks, non-perishable foods, a can opener, bottled water and dry pet food for your pets.
  • Books and board games to help pass the time

Be connected

  • Fully charged power banks with the correct cables to charge your devices
  • Battery powered torches and radios – keep extra batteries in the sizes you need
  • Printed phone numbers of essential services, including AusNet, emergency services, your doctor, family and friends

Be prepared

  • Cash in case ATMs and electronic payment systems aren’t working
  • Instructions on how to manually open any electric gates or garage doors
  • A copy of your outage plan, which you can create on the Power outage plan website.
