During outages and emergencies, the Distillery can provide heat, light, hot meals, device charging, food storage, internet and a central place for the community, local businesses and emergency services to gather and stay connected.
Alexandra and surrounding communities can be affected by bushfires and severe weather, making reliable power critical for community safety and emergency response. An Energy Resilience grant of $49,950 enabled Taungurung Land and Waters Council to install a 40kWh battery and EV charger at the site’s existing solar system at its Alexandra office and community complex. During outages and emergencies, the complex can remain powered as a culturally safe place for Taungurung people and the broader community, while supporting internet and phone communications, cooling, kitchen access, showers and nearby emergency operations.
Strathbogie often faces severe storms and bushfire risk causing power outages that disrupt communications, emergency coordination and community safety. During outages and emergencies, the mobile hub can travel directly to affected communities, providing connectivity, device charging, refrigeration, refreshments, information and practical support, extending help to people who may be difficult to reach.
