Timeline and process

  • Preliminary Enquiry Stage

    The enquiry stage as per National Electricity Rules Chapter 5A allows you to review AusNet services Process and requirements before submitting a connection application. Please download the AusNet Services Connection Policy to review details of negotiated connection services. For technical requirements please download our Protection Requirements SOP 11-16

    For further queries please submit a connection application or a feasibility assessment form.

  • Feasibility Assessment

    Our process

    AusNet Services can provide a feasibility assessment for the connection applicant upon request. This is an optional stage.

    The purpose of this service is to provide a desk top assessment and an approximate cost for the minimum network augmentation required for the project, with no consideration for the system study. This will assist the applicant to determine the projects feasibility before proceeding to the connection application stage. This does not substitute the connection application stage or account for detailed system studies.

    You may request a feasibility assessment by completing the Feasibility assessment form.

    Once a Feasibility assessment form has been lodged the energy connections team will be in touch to provide you. Charges will be on an hourly rate for time expenses incurred in assessing the feasibility of your project.

  • 1. Connection Application Stage

    Our Process

    You may elect to skip the feasibility assessment stage and directly lodge a connection application. You may do so by emailing us a completed connection application form.
    To commence assessment of your application, a Letter Agreement and Confidentiality Agreement will need to be executed. Once a connection application form has been lodged the energy connections team will be in touch to provide you with a copy of these agreements for your execution. Charges will be on an hourly rate for time expenses incurred in assessing connection application.

    Assessment of a Connection Application requires iterative communications between the applicant and AusNet Services. The applicant is required to complete relevant network studies in order for the connection application submission to be complete.

    Once a submission is deemed complete AusNet Services will commence preparation of connection offer. Offer preparation can take up to 65 Business Days.

    An offer letter will be sent to you that details the Scope and Connection costs (cost of constructing and augmenting the network to accommodate the proposed connection). Along with our offer to you, we will also provide you with set of Connection Agreements.

    Costs

    This will be the cost of assessing your application and preparing an offer. Cost will be per cost Schedule in Letter Agreement (TBA) and charged on a monthly basis.


    Time frame

    65 Business Days from submission of a complete connection application.

     

    Your proposed installation must comply with the requirements in the following documents:

    • Protection Requirements of Embedded Generators (LV + HV up to 22kV) - SOP 11-16
    • Central Protection Commissioning Test Report - SOP 33-07
    • Power Quality Compliance Requirements - SOP 33-08
    • Single Line Diagram Requirements
    • System Study Requirements


  • 2. Sign final Connection Agreement

    The connection Agreement sets out the terms and conditions under which we will provide the connection, the rights and obligations of each party, and the connection charges to be paid.

    To expedite your project you can choose to sign the issued connection Agreements or alternatively you may choose to negotiate on the terms and conditions.

    Delivery of your project will not commence until agreements are signed. The Connection Agreement is made subject to project assumptions.

    2. Executed Agreements.
    3. Network Study Report

    Costs

    This will be the cost of constructing any network augmentations and connecting to the network. Cost will vary depending on each project.

     

    Time frame

    Usually 1 week but is subject to customer's execution.

  • 3. Install System and Commission

    Upon execution of the Connection agreements and any other relevant agreements, delivery of your project as per the scope in your connection agreement (network augmentations) will commence. Delivery will include detailed design, construction, testing and commissioning of the scope of work.

    To allow connection of your project to the network, you will need to provide us with a commissioning test program for our approval. Once this is approved commissioning tests can begin.

    Per required Practical Completion date in executed Connection Agreement.

  • 4. Ready to switch on

    Upon receipt of a satisfactory Commissioning test report, and all other connection criteria per Connection Agreement have been satisfied, we will issue a Practical Completion letter to allow you to generate.

    You will need to ensure you have entered into an agreement for generation with your retailer, and an appropriate meter is installed.
