We caught up with Bernie Repacholi, Human Resources Optimisation and Analytics Manager in AusNet’ People, Sustainability and Transformation team to learn more about her story and what motivates her work at AusNet. Here’s what she had to say:
Can you tell us a bit about your role at AusNet and what part of the business you work in?
I joined AusNet initially as a Human Resources Operations Manager in the People, Sustainability and Transformation team leading the people advisory, employee relations and administration support services to the business. More recently, I’ve moved to a Human Resources Optimisation and Analytics Manager role, responsible for rapidly accelerating and maturing AusNet’s People systems, processes and employee experience to design a future-fit workplace. In this role, I work at the intersection of analytics, creativity and strategy to ensure our people compliance obligations are met while amplifying our strengths of diversity and strong company performance to lead Australia’s energy transition.
How long have you been at AusNet and what made you want to join AusNet?
I’m relatively new to AusNet having joined the company eight months ago. What drew me to AusNet was to learn and work with people who have a range of perspectives, capabilities, and backgrounds. I also wanted to join the team as the laughter and camaraderie between my interviewers were irresistible! I wanted in, and to be part of a team that enjoys working at pace, trying new ideas and having fun. AusNet is open to the possibilities to reimagine how people connect with new energy. I have a hunger for challenge and am excited by the opportunity to tangibly shape the future of work and the energy industry.
What does your average day at work look like?
An average day sees me checking in regularly with my team, prioritising work, problem solving, discussing feedback, pain points and wins. I leave time and space to coach my team and leaders to explore solutions. One of the most important aspects of my job is to discuss feedback, it’s so important to reflect, learn, pivot and try new ways to deliver a better service at the next opportunity.
What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is developing diverse teams so that people can thrive and impact the everyday employee experience and using every interaction to impact our culture and values.
What makes you most proud about working for AusNet?
One of my proudest moments was popping on a bright lippy for “Liptember” – our team across the organisation raised more than $10,000 for programs, support services and research for women’s mental health.
What opportunities has AusNet offered you?
AusNet offers a range of interesting projects, problems and people to tap into to help you solve them together. I’ve participated in AusNet’ Leader Led Manager Essentials program, employee facilitated Powerup sessions which are short, sharp learning events for everyone to help create awareness, share their knowledge, and develop a greater understanding of how our business and industry works. I’ve also curated LinkedIn Learning content – I recently listened to Atomic Habits Blinkest summary on recommendation from our amazing Learning Manager.
What’s something interesting about your job, or team that people might not know?
Not all of us have “traditional” HR backgrounds. We have a range of qualifications and experiences which brings a range of perspectives, creativity and approaches to develop amazing interactions for our people that deliver business impact. I always look to work with people whose world view differs from my own, have a great attitude, values and ethically driven and open to learn new skills. My first priority of every day is to help my team members have the best work experience they can by focusing on inclusion, communication and belonging. I’m deeply interested in how they spend their work day so it is stimulating and fun.
What advice would you give to people looking to work at AusNet?
Be unconstrained in your thinking of what may be possible. Focus on progress over perfection to learn and grow. This is what will help us make the step change as leaders for a sustainable energy future.
