Apprentice Power Technician

  • Also known as Electrical Fitter; Substations Electrician
  • Role includes the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical apparatus, such as power transformers, circuit breakers and regulators as well as associated wiring
  • Work is performed on AusNet Services' zone substations and terminal stations
  • To do this role, need to enjoy working outdoors, working in a team and hands-on electrical work
  • Pre-requisites - Pass in year 11 Maths

 

Apprentice Lineworker - Transmission and Distribution

Ross Kelly

  • Transmission role - includes the installation, repair and maintenance of overhead lines carrying electricity from generation stations to terminal and zone substations, usually on steel towers.
  • Distribution role - includes the installation, repair and maintenance of overhead lines and cables carrying electricity to domestic, commercial and industrial users
  • To do these roles, need to enjoy working outdoors, working in a team, hands-on electrical work and working at heights
  • Pre-requisites - Pass in year 11 Maths

Technical Trainee - Communications Power Technician

  • Also known as Communications Technician
  • Role includes the installation, repair and maintenance of communications systems associated with electricity supply networks.  This includes analogue and digital multiplexing equipment as well as system control and data aquisition (SCADA) installations.
  • To do these roles, need to enjoy technical work, working in a team, travelling to various part of Victoria and working with communications equipment
  • Pre-requisites - Pass in year 12 Maths & Physics

Technical Trainee - Surveyor / Draftsperson

  • Also known as Survey / Designer
  • Role includes the survey, civil design and drafting elements associated wtih electricity supply networks.  This includes the use of electronic surveying instruments and AutoCAD drafting software
  • To do these roles, need to enjoy technical work, using surveying equipment to measure distances and angles, working in a small team, drafting and using AutoCAD and working in a mix of indoor and outdoor environments
  • Pre-requisites - Pass in year 12 Maths & Physics

Technical Trainee - Controller

  • Role includes management of power flow and access associated with the provision of a safe and reliable electrical supply.  This includes directing field crews and others in switching works
  • To do these roles, need to enjoy working indoors using sophisticated information systems, real time response to network events, using your responsible and logical personality to respond to issues

Technical Trainee - Electrical Distribution

  • Role includes the management of installation, repair and maintenance works on the electrical distribution network.  This includes meeting customer and regulatory obligations for new connections, management of customer interface and supply reliability issues.
  • To do these roles, need to enjoy working in a small team and working alone, meeting and communicating with people, planning and project management, and working in a mix of indoor and outdoor environments
  • Pre-requisites - Pass in year 12 Maths & Physics

Technical Trainee - Power Technician - Secondary

  • Also known as Electrical Tester
  • Role includes the installation and maintenance of electrical power networks protection and control systems.  This includes monitoring the condition of electrical lines and power equipment in a high voltage environment
  • To do this role, need to enjoy working in a small team and working alone; working mostly in a terminal or zone substation environment with some work at heights; technical work with sophisticated testing and measuring equipment
  • Pre-requisites - Pass in year 12 Maths & Physics
